BRAVADO FILMES is an independent production company focused on creating auteur cinematic works, committed to an editorial line that privileges emerging artists and new ways of thinking and making cinema in Portugal.

Founded by directors Diogo Salgado and Gonçalo Pina, Bravado Filmes was born with the purpose of accompanying a new generation of filmmakers, betting on an inventive cinema with its own aesthetic identity and a strong sense of urgency — works that challenge narrative, formal, or production conventions, and that clearly express the vision of those who direct them. From the very beginning, the focus has been on building a flexible and ethical structure that allows young authors to develop their films with creative freedom and strategic support.
Bravado Filmes quickly established its international presence with selections at prestigious festivals such as BAFICI, Karlovy Vary, International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam). Capitalizing on this momentum, the production company has also consistently featured at prominent national venues, including Curtas Vila do Conde, Doclisboa and IndieLisboa.
What these films have in common is a sharp auteur perspective and a singular approach to cinematic form and language. Bravado Filmes positions itself as a space for risk, where experimentation is protected and every creative gesture is closely supported.
We value horizontal and close relationships between production and creation. Each project is developed in permanent dialogue with the directors, adapting processes and structures to the specific needs of each work. We know that debut films are often marked by budgetary fragility and institutional instability — which is why we assume our role as a safe space for shared risk.
Bringing these works to different audiences also implies rethinking traditional models of distribution and exhibition. We believe in cinema as a means of artistic communication between authors and society, refusing geographical, age, or socioeconomic barriers in its circulation. We continuously seek alternative ways to present films, expanding their impact and accessibility.
With a light and adaptable structure, Bravado Filmes challenges crystalized production models and seeks to contribute to the renewal of the Portuguese cinematic ecosystem. For us, democratizing access to cinema means ensuring that any author, regardless of their background, can find the space, the listening, and the tools to achieve their vision.
